This post discusses the process of integrating Notion and Jira, enabling new items added to your Notion database to create a corresponding issue in your Jira account automatically.
To achieve this automation, a one-time setup is required, which will be accomplished using Pabbly Connect.
The process involves connecting Notion with Pabbly Connect to retrieve the most recently added items, linking Pabbly Connect with Jira, and using the captured items to create Jira issues.
Steps to Automatically Create Jira Issues with Notion Database Items
1. Sign In / Sign Up to Pabbly Connect and Create a Workflow
2. Setup Notion as the Trigger App to Capture New Items
3. Setup Jira as the Action App to Create Issues
Step 1:- Sign In / Sign Up to Pabbly Connect and Create a Workflow
A. Sign In / Sign Up
To begin this process, visit Pabbly Connect and create your account by clicking on the ‘Sign Up Free’ button. You can also click on Sign In if you already have an account.
Click on the Pabbly Connect ‘Access Now’ button
B. Create Workflow
To create a new workflow, click the ‘Create Workflow’ button.
Name your workflow, and click on ‘Create’.
Step 2:- Setup Notion as the Trigger App to Capture New Items
Let’s delve into how to establish a connection between Notion and Pabbly Connect, so that we can retrieve any new items added to your Notion database.
A. Trigger App
Trigger enables us to select the application from which Pabbly Connect will retrieve the data. In this instance, it would be Notion.
Choose ‘Notion’ as the Trigger App, select ‘New Database Item’ as a Trigger Event, and click on ‘Connect’.
B. Connect Notion Account
To connect with your Notion account, select ‘Add New Connection’, and click on ‘Connect With Notion’. After that, you’ll need to grant permission by authorizing access.
Choose the Database ID that you wish to retrieve items from, then click on ‘Save & Send Test Request’.
You can confirm that the connection has been successfully established by expanding the Response Received section and checking whether the items fetched from your Notion database are visible.
Step 3:- Setup Jira as the Action App to Create Issues
Action allows us to choose the application that will get executed by the workflow trigger.
We essentially want to use the items captured from Notion database to create issue tickets in Jira. Thus, Jira Software will be our Action App.
A. Action App
Choose ‘Jira Software’ as the Action App, select ‘Create Issue’ as an Action Event, and click on ‘Connect’.
B. Add New Connection
To connect with your Jira account, select ‘Add New Connection’, and click on ‘Connect With Jira Software’. Additionally, you will need to grant the required authorization.
Select the Base URL, Project, and Issue Type.
C. Map Necessary Fields
After successfully connecting your Jira account, the next step is to map the items from the previous steps. Mapping is essential to ensure that the data remains dynamic and is updated based on the responses received.
Map the Summary from the previous step.
Likewise, map the other details, leaving the unnecessary ones empty, and click on ‘Save & Send Test Request’.
When you click on Save & Send Test Request, a new Jira Software issue ticket will be generated.
We have finished the automation process and have effectively connected Notion to Jira. Moving forward, when a new item is added to your Notion database, it will automatically trigger the creation of corresponding issues in your Jira account.
